Not necessarily. Blocking all cookies can actually help to protect privacy, but it limits the functionality available on some Websites. What are temporary cookies?
Temporary cookies (or session cookies) are removed from the computer when you close the browser. They are used to store temporary information, such as the items in your cart.

The following are procedures to enable or disable, delete or block cookies on the main browser:

Google Chrome
Enabling or disabling cookies
1. Click the icon on the Chrome menu.
2. Select “Settings”;
3. At the bottom of the page, click Show Advanced Settings.
4. In the “Privacy” section, click Content settings.
5. Enable or disable cookies:
6. To enable cookies, select Allow saving data locally (recommended).
7. To disable cookies, select Block sites from setting any data.
8. Click Done to save.
If you prefer Google Chrome not to store a record of your visits and downloads, you can surf the Web in incognito mode.
Opening an incognito browsing window
An incognito window looks different from a normal window. The top of an incognito window is grey or blue, depending on your computer or device.
Exiting incognito browsing
To exit incognito browsing, you can:
– Click the X icon in the corner of the window.
– Use the keyboard shortcut Alt+F4 (Windows and Linux) or? -Shift-W (Mac).
– Close the last tab in a window; the window closes automatically.
How it works
– The browsing history is not recorded. Web pages viewed and files downloaded while browsing incognito are not recorded in your browsing and downloads history.
– The cookies are deleted. All new cookies are deleted after you close all incognito windows.
– You can easily switch between browsing in incognito mode and normal browsing. You can simultaneously open both incognito windows and normal windows and switch between modes.
– The extensions are then disabled. In the incognito windows, the extensions are automatically disabled. This is because Google Chrome does not control the way in which your personal data is handled by the extensions. If you want an extension to be displayed in the incognito windows, check the box “Allow in incognito mode” for the extension.
The stored data
Chrome stores updates of Favorites and general settings.
Chrome saves any changes to the Favorites list, or General Settings in incognito mode.
Websites could keep a record of your visit.
Incognito browsing has the sole purpose of preventing Google Chrome from storing information about the websites you have visited. On the websites you visit, a record of your visit might be stored. In addition, all the files saved on your computer or on your mobile device are stored.

Internet Explorer
To delete cookies, follow these steps:
1. To open Internet Explorer, click the Start button. In the search box, type Internet Explorer, and then in the list of results, click on Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Tools button, and then click on Internet Options.
3. Click the General tab and then click on Delete Browsing History.
4. Select the Cookies box and then click Delete if it is not already selected. Check or uncheck the boxes for the other options that you want to delete. To keep cookies for your saved favorites, check the box Save data on favorite websites.

Opera
Preferences for cookies
Preferences> Advanced> Cookies. These settings allow you to configure the management of cookies in Opera. The default setting accepts all cookies.
With Accept All Cookies, all cookies are accepted
Accept cookies only from the site I visit
Third-party cookies, sent from a domain other than the one you are visiting, are rejected.
Never accept cookies
All cookies are refused
Delete new cookies when exiting Opera
Some Websites require cookies to function properly. In this case, if you want to prevent the storing of the cookies sent between one browsing session and another, activate the option “Delete new cookies when exiting Opera”.
Ask before accepting cookies
To decide what to do each time with cookies received, select “Ask before accepting cookies”. In doing so, with each new cookie, you’ll see the dialogue box for the cookie containing information about the origin of the cookie and its attributes.
Management of Cookies
The cookie manager allows you to view and edit the cookies saved by Opera. The button “Manage Cookies …” opens a window containing a list of folders, each identified by a domain. After using the quick search field to locate a domain, open the folder to view all cookies connected to it.
The dialogue box for cookies
The dialogue box for cookies is displayed whenever a Website offers a cookie, but only if you enabled the option “Ask before accepting cookies” in Preferences> Advanced> Cookies. The dialogue box displays the origin of the cookie and its attributes and allows you to choose whether to accept or reject it.
Force deletion when exiting Opera
Check the “Force deletion when exiting Opera” box to request that the cookie is removed when the session ends regardless of its expiry.
Remember my choice for all cookies for this domain
To accept or reject all cookies settings for the same domain, check the box “Remember my choice for all cookies for this domain”. In this way, at the next offer of a cookie for the same domain, the dialogue box will no longer be shown.

Safari
To set the blocking of cookies
Tap Block cookies and choose “Never”, “From third-parties and advertisers” or “Always”. Cookies are information from websites that is stored on the device to allow the sites themselves to remember the user on the next visit so that the web page can be customized based on the information obtained.
Important: some pages might work only if you accept cookies.
To enable or disable JavaScript
Click on Advanced, and enable or disable the corresponding option. JavaScript allows web programmers to control elements of the page. For example, a page that uses JavaScript could display the current date and time, or open a link in a new pop-up window.
To remove information from the device
– To clear your history from Safari, tap Settings> Safari> Clear History.
– To clear all cookies from Safari, tap Settings> Safari> Clear Cookies and Data.
– To clear other stored information from Safari, tap Advanced> Information on websites> Remove all website data.

Firefox
To see or change your settings:
– Click on the menu button and select Options.
– Select the Privacy panel.
– Under Settings history: select Use custom settings.
– To enable cookies, check Accept cookies from sites; uncheck to disable cookies.
– If you are having problems with cookies, also make sure that the option Accept third party cookies is not set to Never.
– Choose the length of time that cookies can be stored:
a) Keep until they expire: cookies will be removed when they reach the expiration date (the date set by the site that sent the cookie).
b) Keep them until you close Firefox: the cookies that are stored on your computer will be removed when Firefox is closed.
c) Keep until asked, ask me every time: displays an alert every time a website tries to set a cookie and ask if you want this cookie to be saved.
– Click OK to close the Options window.
Delete cookies for a specific site
1. – Click on the menu button and select Options.
2. – Select the Privacy panel.
3. – Under Settings history: select Use custom settings.
4. Click on Show Cookies… The cookies dialogue box will be displayed.
5. In the Search field, type the name of the site from which you wish to remove the cookies. A list will appear showing the cookies related to your search.
6. In the list, select the cookies to be removed and click Remove Cookie.
7. To select all the cookies in the list, select the first cookie and press Shift+End.
8. Click the Close button to close the Cookies window.
9. Click OK to close the Options window.
Delete all cookies
1. Click on the menu button, and then select History and then Clear Recent History.
2. From the Time range drop-down menu, in order to clear: select all.
3. Click on the arrow next to Details to display the list of items to delete.
4. Select Cookies and make sure that you have not selected other elements that you wish to keep.
5. Click Delete Now to delete the cookies, then close the Delete All History window.
Block cookies from a specific site
– Visit the site where you want to prevent cookies from being set.
– Click on the right by placing the mouse cursor on the page and selecting Page Info.
– In the Page Info window, select the Permissions panel.
– On the line Set cookies, uncheck Use default. Select the Block option.
– Close the Page Info window.
– Remove any cookies that the website has already set in Firefox.
View the list of blocked websites
– On the menu, select Options.
– Select the Privacy panel.
– Under Settings history: select Use custom settings.
– Next to Accept cookies from sites, click on Exceptions.
Blocking cookies for all sites
– Click on the menu button and select Options.
– Select the Privacy panel.
– Under Settings history: select Use custom settings.
– Uncheck Accept cookies from sites.
– Click OK to close the Options window.
Disabling third party cookies
Third-party cookies are cookies set by a website other than the one you are currently visiting. For example, the cnn.com website may contain a Facebook “like” button. That button will set a cookie that can be read by Facebook. This could be considered a third-party cookie.
Some advertisers use these types of cookies to track user visits to all sites where they offer their services. If a user believes that this traceability might be a source of concern and of invasion of their privacy, in Firefox you can disable third-party cookies.
Notes:
– Disabling third party cookies might prevent tracking by advertisers in some cases but not in all cases.
– Some Websites (such as Microsoft’s Hotmail, MSN and Windows Live Mail mailboxes) using third-party cookies for purposes that are not necessarily related to privacy and their disabling may interfere with the proper functioning of those sites.
The settings of third-party cookies are available in the window of the Privacy panel in Options in Firefox:
– Click on the menu button and select Options.
– Select the Privacy panel.
– Under Settings history: select Use custom settings.
– Set the Accept third-party cookies option to Never.

Note: when browsing with this type of setting, and you realize that some of your favorite Websites are not properly displayed, an intermediate solution is to set the Accept third-party cookies on the sites visited. This setting allows you to accept third-party cookies from Websites that you have previously visited.
